Comcast xfinity TV finally arrives for xbox live

After a long wait and disappearing from the "Coming Soon" section of the Xbox live app market xfinity finally arrives along with HBOgo. It seems if you have Comcast xfinity you cannot log onto the HBOgo app separately as there isn't a Comcast carrier option, this isn't a huge problem since the xfinity app has SOME of HBO's content included, even so many shows are missing entirely, while others are missing entire seasons, the xfinity app makes a poor replacement for the HBOgo app. While on PC Comcast subscribers can log into the HBOgo website Xbox live users cannot. It's doubtful that this will change unless Comcast customers complain en masse. UPDATE!: Comcast has announced HBOgo is coming for Xbox 360 for xfinity customers!

Not all shows are available in HD quality and even those that are in HD don't have the entire season in HD.

The first day was pretty rocky, it seems the swarm of users downloading and activating their xfinity apps was a major strain on the servers and there were many errors telling users to try again in a few minutes. The first day the app was unavailable for a solid 5 hours. Most of the activation and connection issues seem to have smoothed over since.

There are a few bugs remaining however. The volume on more than a few shows and movies is too low and you will find yourself cranking up your sound system just to hear them, this can cause a start when a system sound plays or you switch to another app or game and panic to lower your volume. This issue has also been present on the xfinity website since it's inception.

Another issue is if you click the info button on the media player controls it will show you the timeline as expected, but if you exit out a transparent grey line will remain across the top of the screen for the remaining duration of the show. The only way to remove it is to exit the show and return to it.

There are a few things missing, for example shows. Some shows that are available on the xfinity website are not present on the xfinity app. Also there is no queue or playlist features.

The streaming quality can start off pretty rocky, but clears up quickly in most cases. Although it will never get as sharp as HBOgo's HD website offerings or Netflix HD streaming.

Another goof is the implementation of subtitles. While subtitles are available they are displayed in a large black box that obstructs about a quarter of the screen near the middle rendering them nearly useless. This kind of an issue isn't present anywhere else in the modern world and is simply baffling.

All this aside it's nice to have the app live, it's a great addition for xfinity customers. Hopefully it will be refined, tuned and feature rich in the near future.

Deadly Premonition being updated for the PS3 with Move support and new content

Swery65 is talking about how there is a new version of Deadly Premonition coming for the PS3. It is said to have new content and Move integration. This is exciting for any fan of the amazing story telling and world of the game. Following is a whack recommendation of the whack game.

Picked up this game for $20, well worth the asking price. That is if you like quirkiness that walks hand and hand with bizarre, that wears a M rating like a battle scar.

This game is going on my shelf alongside:

Rule of Rose PS2
Haunting Ground PS2
Obscure 1 2 PS2
Alone in the Dark 360
Onechanbara Wi/360
Indigo Prophesy PC/360
Phantasmagoria PC
Killer 7 PS2/GC
Early Resident Evils
and of course the Silent Hill series

The game seems to be self-aware of what it is subjecting you to. The shooting controls are as awkward as they can be in a survival horror. Aiming with the left stick and firing with the A button anyone? Oh yeah! Who could ask for more? How about the ability to make you burst out laughing like a cheesy B rate horror flick?

Had a friend grab the controls/watch me play for a just a few minutes. He was pretty convinced that both I and the developers are nuts.

If you are a fan of the aforementioned games. Have them in your permanent collection like I do, still play your old PC and PS1 horror games then you can not pass this up. This game should have been made years ago, but better late then never. On the fence? Good luck waiting for it to be $5, that doesn't really happen to games like this. The limited production run gets snatched up by people like me and we will never let it go. Get it in the next few months or risk missing it. Or wait for a estate sale maybe?

If you are a production value snob only able to be satisfied with the newest of the new/ shiny of the shiny, stay far far away. After a few minutes with the game you will be cussing at the wall wearing a straight jacket. This game is not for you!

If you like oddness, controls that must be overcome, graphics straight out of yesteryear, game elements that have you smoking cigarettes to pass the time, drinking coffee to tell the future, buying crackers from vending machines for $25 so you don't starve, enemies that bend over backwards to welcome you to their world. Then this game is a love letter written just for you.

All this being said, I cannot with good conscience recommend this game to anyone but myself and the small percentage of the populous that could fully appreciate it. If your not one of us, but know one of us. Buy us this game as a gift, and we will smile with the warm fuzzy feeling that you truly understand us, or at least trying.

OH COME ON IT'S CHEAP AND WE ARE WORTH IT!!!
